I am a 24 yo single female professional (just starting out). I got a job in Arlington, and I am in need of a place by the end of this month. One lady I met with is renting the master bed/bath in her condo (the other room will be rented out by a student attending george mason). Would you honestly reccomend fairfax for someone such as myself? Would it be smart to take a 12 month lease when i am just moving into the area?
well, i guess my major concerns are having stuff to do in the area, and meeting young single professionals like myself. my roomate would be a student, so i dont know how likely we would be socializing together. also access to DC would be a concern, because again, i will be working in arlington and probably going out with friends in that area and dc.
I lived in Arlington for a long time. Kind of pricey but you will save a little with the public transportation and a lot of frustration dealing with traffic. If you plan on hitting the bars of DC I wouldn’t live in Fairfax. Either an expensive cab ride, long ways to drive in very heavy traffic after a beer or two, or a while on the Metro. Arlington is your best bet. Very safe there to. Arlington is also a pretty small area, you be close to work no matter where you live.
How can such a man call someone like Obama an elitist.
Here is a list of properties he owns and lied all the time.
1)Two Condominiums in Phoenix worth $4.6 million.
2)Beachfront Condos in California worth $2.7 million.
3)Condominium In Coronado worth $2.1 million .
4)Hidden Valley Ranches Rd worth $1.1 million.
5)Condominium in La Jolla, California worth $1 million.
6)High-Rise Condominium in Arlington, Virginia worth $847,800.
Last but not least
7)McCain Bought his Daughter A $700,000 Loft When She Graduated From College.
Seriously this is too much .
This is not a question about who owns most or why dems own the most, its about the man of the hour ,presidential nominee mccain who lied to american people.
Honestly – he probably didn’t know. This is not a man who pays his own bills or writes the mortgage check, after all. He’s married to an heiress, and they have ‘people’ to do all that.
This is why I don’t get why some people have this love fest for McCain.
He’s an adulterer and with a woman whose wealth came from people drinking,
He’s an elitist who thinks 5 million is doing well?
He has a well-documented, horrible temper all of his life.
He’s a war-monger (i.e. George Bush) Maybe wants to get even?
He’s not particularly religious (despite his claims) Even some (younger) evangelicals saw through his posing at Pastor Ricks!
He’s WAY too old.
His time has passed.
His memory is bad.
His best stories are the "glory days’ from 40 years ago.
He did Ok at the church the other night but that was an anomaly and/or he heard all the questions in the limo.
This man will be in the bathroom at 3 am if he lives long enough to complete his first term. I don’t wish him ill, but its the truth. And that Grandma Barbie Doll pill-popping adultress with more BoTox than Phyllis Diller for a wife? Ew. What are people thinking?
We can’t risk senility (again) in the White House! We need to be the Good American again, the ‘American the Beautiful’ America again.!
Al Gore has spoken: The world must embrace a "carbon-neutral lifestyle." To do otherwise, he says, will result in a cataclysmic catastrophe. "Humanity is sitting on a ticking time bomb," warns the website for his film, An Inconvenient Truth. "We have just 10 years to avert a major catastrophe that could send our entire planet into a tailspin." and yet he has four houses ; a 10,000 sf, 20 room, 8 bathroom mansion in Nashville (just for Tipper and him) but that’s not enough, they also have a 4,000 sf home in Arlington, VA, a home in Carthage, TN and a BRAND new high rise condo in San Mancisco. Additionally he flies around in a private jet, doesn’t drive a hybrid and has mineral rights ($20k per month from Pasminco Zinc Mines) to the zinc mine that is under his house – this mine pollutes the local ground water. The issue here is not simply Gore’s hypocrisy; it’s a question of credibility. If he genuinely believes the apocalyptic vision he has put forth and calls for radical changes in thThe issue here is not simply Gore’s hypocrisy; it’s a question of credibility. If he genuinely believes the apocalyptic vision he has put forth and calls for radical changes in the way other people live, why hasn’t he made any radical change in his life? Giving up the zinc mine or one of his homes is not asking much, given that he wants the rest of us to radically change our lives.
To add to his lack of credibility:
120 minutes of "An Inconvenient Truth" contains 100 minutes of fear inducing or warm and fuzzy fluff. Of the 20 remaining minutes of ‘information’ 10 minutes are factual, but don’t support any argument of man-made global warming. 9 of the remaining 10 minutes are duplicitous representations of fact such as the arctic ice thickness graph that is titled "arctic ice thickness" yet is data from a single location. the remaining minute is credits. Gore must be aware of this., as he ain’t stupid. Maybe he feels the end will justify the means.
added: how can these Gore fans rationalize Gore’s overt consumption (on his scale WTF?)? I shake my head in dismay.
I have perfect kitchen. I can cook like a gourmet chef. Our condo is in good location for potiential customers. My questions: How to start? Do I need a permit or license (Arlington, Virginia)? How to establish a web site? How to hire a delivery driver?
Thank you
Start by baking a basketful of muffins and cookies. Visit the local office buildings. The receptionist will announce "The bakery lady is here" and everyone will come to the lobby. You can make a good living doing this.
To do it on a bigger scale, visit local wedding dress shops and tell them what you are offering. Then visit all the wedding "sites" and tell them that you are available on short notice in case anyone cancels at the last minute ( it happens a lot).
You will deliver by yourself in the early days. Don’t buy or rent a truck. Don’t hire a driver; you have to be ready to deliver yourself. The first time a "hired" driver shows up 2 hours late, you will understand.
The city does not care about licenses or permits in the beginning. They are pretty understanding unless you are bothering your neighbors with hundreds of delivery people bringing ingredients to your condo. Later you can register with the city. Probably a $40 license fee. The County Health Department will send you a list of their guidelines which are simple.

On the real estate front, possession is nine tenths of the law. The score is McCain 8, Obama 1.
This Bud’s for you!!
See Politifact’s count of the McCains’ eight homes:
"1. The largest home is a creekside ranch near Sedona, Ariz., spread over more than six acres. That’s where McCain entertained vice presidential prospects, including Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, over Memorial Day weekend. Records from Yavapai County Assessor’s Office show it includes three houses and is worth about $1.1-million. CNN reported that McCain said there are six houses on the property. The owner is listed as the Cindy Hensley McCain Family Trust. If McCain is correct that there are six houses on the property and you counted each one, the total homes owned would rise to 13 (though again, when pressed by Politico about properties, McCain said he wasn’t sure).
"2. and 3. In nearby Phoenix, Cindy McCain owns two combined condo units worth about $1.7-million. They’re part of the Residences at 2211 Camelback, which bills itself as "The Valley of the Sun’s finest example of life beyond the expected" at "the most preferred urban residential address in the prestigious Camelback Corridor." Wild River Rental LLC, which records show is controlled by Cindy McCain, owns another unit in the building, which was purchased in 2007 for $830,000. (This is the unit we missed in our first go round.)
"4. In Arlington, Va., the McCains live in a three-bedroom high-rise condo worth $847,800, property records show.
"5. They also own a condo in La Jolla, Calif., that’s worth more than $1-million. The building overlooks a park and the Pacific Ocean.
Records also link the McCains to three other residences.
"6. Wild River Rental LLC, the company controlled by Cindy McCain, is listed as the owner of Phoenix condo worth more than half a million dollars. The McCains bought the condo for their daughter Meghan, according to a story in GQ magazine and confirmed through a public records search. The reporter compared the inside to "a spaceship furnished by West Elm. There’s a giant silver chimney that extends out of her fireplace into the ceiling about twenty feet above."
"7. and 8. Dream Catcher Family LLC, a domestic corporation formed by the McCain family, owns two condos in a beachfront complex in Coronado, Calif. Tax records show one is valued at $2.7-million. The other was purchased this year, according to sales records. A sales price was not available.”
The best way to help him remember: When they are behind on the taxes of their homes again let the state of California seize. When that county sheriff appears in congress it would jar his memory.
My husband and I are moving in July from Arlington, VA to Camp Pendleton (he’s a Marine). This is going to be my first move with him, so I’m completely new at this whole thing.
We decided that we want to live off base, and wanted to know where are some good places to look? We plan to rent, apartments are ok, condos or houses are preferred
We need to find somewhere that is relatively cheap and in a good community.
If you’ve lived in the area, or been stationed there, I’d really appreciate your input.
Thanks ![]()
if your not going to live on base the next closest thing right out the gates ( there are 3) is oceanside on the main side and fallbrook in the rear (Through a Separate base (Naval)) fallbrook is more run down in most parts, oceanside is where the majority of marines live housing is more affordable, Carlsbad is the next city over and is more expensive.. The sections that are better are in the rancho del oro and off of north river road (not so much the apartments but the homes).. try rent.com they have tons of lisiting and prices you can be expecting to pay
i’ve moved to pittsburgh for a job a few weeks ago, but still haven’t found a great place yet. what are some decent, middle class, neighborhoods that a 28 year old single guy would enjoy living in? i’m looking for a 3 br house, rather than an apt or condo. someone suggested arlington to me. is that a nice area? what about carrick? someone first suggested negley/shady side, but i didn’t think it was very nice when i went there to check it out. i liked mt. washington, but it was a bit hard to get to work downtown from there since the parking near the incline is poor. i was told allentown.arlington had a train within walking distance and that would be ideal for me. can anyone suggest any other place? what are brentwood and greentree like?
i used to live on negley/walnut in shadyside, i LOVED it. close to everything… shoppin, resturants, busses.. i used to ride the bus downtown everyday to work… its a little noisy at night though.
My father (90 yrs old) still resides in Arlington VA, in a condo valued at 500K, at his death what would be the inheritance tax to his heirs on the sale of the condo?
The only assets that my father has would be the condo. He bought the condo in 1975 (there abouts) for about 90K paid in cash from the sale of a previous home in MD.
Is there any type of taxes we would be responsible for (Fed or State)if the Condo was sold, and the heirs do not reside in VA, but in MD, NY, and CO?
An Estate Tax is a tax levied on against the Estate based on the total value of the Estate. The Federal Estate Tax is 45% of the total estate after a $3.5 million exclusion (the first $3.5 million is estate tax free). There is a no federal Estate Tax in 2010 and in 2011 the exclusion drops back to $1 million with a 55% tax on everything above the $1 million. An Inheritance Tax is a tax paid by the recipient or beneficiary of an inheritance. Thus, if your state has an Inheritance Tax, you will pay the tax regardless of whether the deceased state imposed an Inheritance. Most states, like California, do not have an Inheritance Tax. Some states, like Indiana, New Jersey, and Tennessee among others, do have an Inheritance Tax the is usually between 10% -16% of the value of the inheritance. You should check the Tax Law for your state of residence.
Currently Virginia has neither an Estate or an Inheritance Tax, although it has had both in the past. Since your Father’s total assets are valued at less than $1 million, there would be no Federal Estate Tax under the Tax Law at this time.

I mean really, McCain is a rich ahole, and his wife is worth millions all inherited from her daddy… But id like one of you republicans to explain to me some specific examples of how Obama is more of an elitist than McCain, instead of just saying this over and over like the republican propoganda machines tell you? The following are some more examples (not mine, I lost the site I got them from but they arent mine, credit to whoever wrote them up).
I mentioned a few moments ago that the Republicans love to try to paint Democrats as elitists. It’s actually part of the Republican playbook so no one that runs for office shouldn’t expect it to happen
My REAL question, though, is why anyone lets McCain try to get away with saying that Obama is an elitist, AS IF HE IS NOT. Truly. Here’s the definition of elitism.
e·lit·ism or é·lit·ism
n.
The belief that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources.
The sense of entitlement enjoyed by such a group or class.
Control, rule, or domination by such a group or class.
So let’s just see…..
McCain’s father and grandfather were four-star admirals in the US Navy. I’ll bet the salaries of guys like that weren’t too shabby. In 1968, his father was named commander of all US forces in the Vietnam theatre.
McCain attended a private preparatory boarding school in Alexandria, Episcopal High School. (In fact, he also sent one of his kids to an elite private school and claimed tax breaks for charity. )
McCain was cheating with a rich woman 17 years his junior, who was daughter to a man who ran an Anheuser-Busch distributorship and not only had a drug addiction problem but was scamming through a charity. He dumped his wife, who had been crippled in an accident, and married the rich bimbo. What did his crippled wife Carol get out of the deal? Two Houses and financial support for her ongoing medical treatments from her accident. Now that should tell you right now that McCain was well-to-do if he could give his cheated-on wife TWO HOUSES and money to support her.
Carol, his wife, had been in a disfiguring traffic accident in 1969, a development that McCain first heard about from an officer’s offhand remark.
Like her husband, Carol was enduring a painful episode. On an icy Christmas Eve, she lost control of her car and crashed into a telephone pole. Authorities found her thrown from the wreckage, in shock and with serious injuries. Her legs were crunched, her arm and pelvis smashed and internal organs were bleeding. She almost died, and doctors discussed amputating her legs. It took months of operations, physical therapy and convalescence before Carol could walk without crutches.
"You might be upset when you see me," Carol warned him from Jacksonville in their first post-release telephone conversation.
McCain reassured her: "Well, you know, I don’t look so good myself. It’s fine."
According to McCain’s account of Carol’s recovery in Faith of My Fathers, she lost 4 inches off her height as a result of the accident and the related medical procedures.
A recent article on McCain talks about how his Hidden Ranch property has SIX HOUSES on it. And incidentally, that is his VACATION HOME.
McCain said the valley was settled by Mormons and that the Hidden Valley Ranch got its name from the horseshoe shape of the creek that runs through the property.
He said he built the first house on his property 24 years ago and now there are six houses on his lot.
But this article says it’s only FOUR houses and is worth 1.8 million dollars. Oh, what a comedown.
Arizona is a community property state, so McCain may share possessions his wife didn’t inherit, such as their primary home. Cindy McCain, through a family trust, sold the family mansion in Phoenix for $3.2 million and bought a $4.6 million Phoenix condo in 2006. The couple may also jointly own a condo in Arlington, Virginia, assessed at $847,800. McCain’s campaign and Hensley declined to say whether the couple has communal property.
John McCain held a barbecue recently for reporters at a two-story cabin near Sedona, Arizona, that sits on 15 acres owned by his wife’s family trust and a real estate partnership in her name. The property includes four single-family homes and is worth nearly $1.8 million.
Let’s mention again how much money McCain has at his disposal JUST FROM HIS WIFE, although none of HER money is apparently in McCain’s name.
The McCains’ marriage has mixed business and politics from the beginning, according to an expansive review by The Associated Press of thousands of pages of campaign, personal finance, real estate and property records nationwide. The paperwork chronicles the McCains’ ascent from Arizona newlyweds to political power couple on the national stage.
As heiress to her father’s stake in Hensley & Co. of Phoenix, Cindy McCain is an exe
McCain is definitely an elitist. He is also smug and arrogant.
Vote Obama/Biden!!!
